Earning a Master’s in biochemistry and a PhD in Life Sciences from the University of Nice (UNS), Frédérique Vidal joined the UNS faculty as a Senior Lecturer in 1995. She became a professor in 2004 and managed the university’s Life Sciences Department from 2005 to 2008. She served as Deputy Director of the Faculty of Sciences from 2007 to 2009, at which point she was elected Director of the Faculty.
Vidal is an active member of the scientific and academic communities, having been an external member of the Inserm Regional Scientific Advisory Board and a member of the UPMC-Paris 7-Institut Pasteur’s jury for its master’s in virology. As co-manager of the European Tempus project, she helped set up a licence/master/doctorate programme in the Balkans. Vidal is an expert consultant for the Agence d’Évaluation de la Recherche et de l'Enseignement Supérieur and for the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI). She is also an invited member of the Faculty of Medicine Scientific Commission.
In May 2017, Vidal was appointed Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
